Summer time is the best time to visit Edinburgh. With a planned social programme and plenty of free time to do your own thing, we’ll make sure you have a summer to remember!

Explore Edinburgh
To ensure your experience at the University of Edinburgh's Summer School is memorable, we encourage students to embrace the city and its culture and take part in the variety of social activities available.
Here's a good guide to all you need to know to plan and enjoy a visit to Edinburgh - City of Edinburgh
In your free time outside of the course, we also recommend that you experience life as a local and here are a few top tips of things to do:
- Take a trip down to Portobello beach on a sunny day - miles of sandy beaches and tasty eateries await
- Climb up Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano in the heart of the city, and take in the incredible vistas of the city itself
- The Meadows is a popular spot for relaxing with friends, watching the world go by and enjoying a picnic in the sun. The park is perfect for joggers and runners too!
- Be sure to head down to discover the shops, restaurants and galleries in the popular shore area of Leith - one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Europe
Social Programme
Our social activity schedule is included in the summer school programme and could range from city tours where you’ll explore Edinburgh’s most popular attractions, as well as discovering its hidden gems, to being shown the spooky side of town in ghost tours.
Indulging in an afternoon tea can be a great way to socialise and immerse in the culture of this beautiful city, or why not join in a Ceilidh event, a traditional community gathering filled with music, dance and fun!
Please note that social activities are subject to change and will depend on availability and Government guidance at the time. However, we promise to offer you as much fun as we can!
