What is the maxiumum duration I can borrow equipment for?

4 weeks is the maximum duration. Under no circumstances can this be extended during term time. Special exceptions during vacation period may be possible but this is at the sole discretion of the Learning Spaces Technology Service Desk.

Can I extend a booking?

You cannot extend a booking yourself. If you want to keep an item for longer than it was originally booked for email learningspacestechnology@ed.ac.uk and we will assist you if possible. Please note that any extension is subject to equipment availability so there is no guarantee your request will be granted.

Can someone show me how to use the equipment?

Yes. When booking an item of equipment you can also book technical support. Browse the Help and Support category or use the search facility to look for Technical Support. A technician will meet you at the Helpdesk and give you a quick demonstration on how to operate the equipment you are collecting.

Please note: Help and Support sessions are booked in 30 min slots. You must be at the collection point on time or you risk losing this session.

How to I enquire about the DIY Film School courses?

We currently lend out equipment under it's own category of DIY Film School, however we only lend the equipment we do not run the film school courses. For information on that please go to the DIY Film School webpage.

Can someone else collect the equipment on my behalf?

No - the person who booked the equipment must be the one who collects it. You will be asked to show your student card at the time of collection.

What do I do if I lose an item of equipment?

As stated in our Terms and Conditions (which you must agree to before booking any equipment), you are fully responsible for any loss or damage of an item in your possession. We reserve the right to request the borrower replaces the item(s) like for like, should it be severely damaged, lost or not returned. You must email learningspacestechnology@ed.ac.uk or phone (0131) 6504097 as soon as you can with as much detail as possible, and we will get back to you to advise further.

What do I do if equipment gets damaged whilst in my possession?

As stated in our Terms and Conditions (which you must agree to before booking any equipment), you are fully responsible for any loss or damage of an item in your possession. We reserve the right to request the borrower replaces the item(s) like for like, should it be severely damaged, lost or not returned. Can I take the equipment out of the country?

If you are intending to travel with the equipment, whether that be domestic travel or international travel, we strongly advise you to take out appropriate travel insurance to cover you for any damage, loss or theft. While this is not a booking requirement or rule, you are responsible for the equipment while the item(s) are in your care so we do recommend that you seek appropriate means of insurance cover.

I want to borrow additional cables or accessories - can I do this?

Yes. When booking an item of equipment, type your additional requirements in the Notes box and we will do our best to provide this for you. This may or may not be possible though, depending on what you have requested. However, you will always be provided with enough cables to allow you to use the equipment you have booked: eg. if you book a laptop and projector together you will always be provided with a cable to connect the two.
