Monograph shortlisted for award *INCLUDE*

A recent Scottish History monograph has been shortlisted for the 2014 Saltire Literary Awards. (Published 20 October 2014)

History book of the year

‘Painting the town. Scottish urban history in art’ has been shortlisted for the Saltire Scottish History Book of the Year.

Among the authors are Dr Patricia Dennison, Honorary Fellow; Scottish History and Professor Michael Lynch, Honorary Professorial Fellow in the School.

Co-authors include Annie Lyell, a graduate of the University, Stuart Eydmann, a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Celtic and Scottish Studies and Simon Stronach, a frequent co-author of Burgh Surveys, which has connections with the Centre for Scottish Urban History at the University.

The book displays an array of contemporary images of Scotland’s towns and townspeople before photography, accompanied by expert commentary.

Prestigious awards

Widely regarded as Scotland’s most prestigious book awards, the Saltire Literary Awards are organised by the Saltire Society, a non-political independent charity founded in 1936 which has membership branches throughout Scotland. The History Book of the Year award is supported by the Scottish Historical Review Trust.

The winning book from each category will receive £2000 and go on to compete for the coveted Saltire Scottish Book of the Year Award, which is accompanied by a £10,000 cash prize to the winning author(s) and is sponsored by Creative Scotland.

It is expected that books shortlisted for this award will see a significant benefit to book sales as a result.
