Andrew Millar project launch
Dr Adam Budd has launched an exciting new web-based project that documents the life and career of Andrew Millar, one of the most important publishers of the eighteenth century. (Published on 31 August 2015)
Following a successful international colloquium on eighteenth century literary commerce, held in Old College in July, Dr Adam Budd has launched the Andrew Millar Project: Sources, Training, and Links for Further Research.
The project website features a visual exhibition of documents that illustrate the history of the book trade in London and Edinburgh, 1725-1768.
Together with e-learning modules on locating, examining, and interpreting eighteenth-century correspondence, users with little formal training will be able to make sense of openly-accessible historical documents in British cultural and intellectual history.

Training features colleagues from within our School and the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts, National Library of Scotland.
The project’s sources have been drawn from minor and major collections on both sides of the Atlantic, illustrating the negotiation, circulation, and reception.
Project funding
Funding for the project has been provided by the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Arts and Humanities Research Council, with support from the Bibliographical Society.
