Referring to the University

Use an initial capital to refer to the University or any of our specific Schools and Colleges. Use lowercase for general use.

When referring to the University on our own products, simply say 'the University', with an initial capital.

The University

Example

  • Student numbers are growing at the University.

If you need to specify, use 'the University of Edinburgh' never 'Edinburgh University'.

Examples

  • The School was founded in 1713.
  • All the Schools and Colleges have slightly different approaches to hybrid learning.

General use

When referring generally to schools, colleges, and universities, use lower case.
