Experimental design workshop Session 2: Improving statistical power and available tools for experimental design. (15th & 1st Mar)

Funders and journals are demanding increasingly more rigorous reporting of experimental design (see for example the recent MRC changes: http://www.mrc.ac.uk/funding/guidance-for-applicants/4-proposals-involving-animal-use/). These two Brown Bag sessions will provide a basis for how to design experiments, incorporate power calculations at the design stage, report power calculations and enhance the power of your designs.

Laboratory supervision of project students workshop (3rd Feb)

Many postdocs and PhD students spend time supervising project students in the laboratory, but there has been little if any formal recognition of carrying out this task. Organised by Mayank Dutia, this session is for postdocs and PhD students, and the aim is to initiate discussion on what the responsibilities of doing this are, and what people should expect to get out of supervising.

Grant writing workshop (13th Jan)

Prof Jamie Davies will aim this workshop at both those with grant writing experience and people planning to do so in the near future. It will also involve discussion with people who have sat on grant awarding committees.
