[28/03/24] Spatial resilience of complex ecosystems

About the event

Abstract

Authors: Max Rietkerk (Utrecht University), Arjen Doelman (Leiden University), Isla Myers-Smith (University of British Columbia, University of Edinburgh), Ehud Meron (Ben Gurion University)

The concept of tipping points and critical transitions helps inform our understanding of the impacts of global change. Spatial self-organisation has been interpreted as an early warning indicator. They review how spatial self-organisation can aid complex systems to evade tipping points and can therefore be a signal of resilience. Their research through the Resilience ERC Synergy Grant will explore spatial pattern formation and tipping points in tundra and savanna ecosystems. For more information visit: https://ercsynergy-resilience.eu/
