Acclaimed poet considers her craft
An award-winning writer and Edinburgh alumna will reflect on how poetry is presented to the world at a University event.
Professor Kathleen Jamie will speak at the Centre for the History for the Book’s Annual Lecture on Wednesday, 8 November. The discussion will be led by the Centre’s Director, Dr Tom Mole.
During the free, public event they will discuss Professor Jamie’s poetry, as well as being published in books, it has featured in artist collaborations and outdoor installations.
One of her poems, Here Lies Our Land, is inscribed on the national monument of Bannockburn.
Remarkable writer
Professor Jamie is also an essayist. She has been described by the Scottish Poetry Library as “one of a remarkable clutch of Scottish writers”.
She studied Philosophy at Edinburgh and in 1994 was chosen as one of the so-called New Generation poets, whose work was featured in a month-long nationwide festival.
Her 2004 collection The Tree House won the Forward Poetry Prize and the Scottish Book of the Year Award. She became Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Stirling in 2011.
Centre for the History of the Book
Founded in 1995, the Centre for the History of the Book is an interdisciplinary centre for research into all aspects of the material culture of the text.
It explores the production, circulation, and reception of written work from manuscript to electronic text.
It was one of the first research centres to be established in the field. The Centre is internationally recognised as a leading centre for the study of book history and related topics.
