Lecture abstract

With the referendum to be held this year in Scotland there has been great debate concerning the type of society we want to live in. Professor Davis draws from over 25 years of collaborative research, practical work with children and eventful encounters to discuss what a more child focussed, inclusive and socially just society might look like. Utilising case examples that set out children’s views of poverty, disability, sport, health, education and social services, Professor Davis analyses contemporary thinking on how we can unleash the untapped resources of the young and examines the potential for a radical repositioning and transformation of childhood based on the notion of the common weal: strong relationships, appreciative exchange, participatory democracy, fairness in public institutions, collaborative problem solving and service to your fellow citizen.
