Background

Dr Greenhalgh is a Lecturer in Animal Bioscience at the University of Edinburgh. After qualifying as a veterinary surgeon, he worked with a wide range of species in both private practice and during clinical positions at the University of Cambridge and the Royal Veterinary College. He subsequently moved to Edinburgh to take up a Wellcome Trust Research Training Fellowship and completed his doctoral research on the cellular and molecular methods of liver regeneration.

He is currently pursuing specialty training towards a European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. As assistant director of the Wellcome Trust Critical Care Laboratory for Large Animals, he has experience with extended post-resuscitation care, and medical device development in the fields of lung biopsy and the gastrointestinal tract. Current research interests include the refinement of pig models of acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute kidney injury, and diabetes.
