Food and Drink in Edinburgh

Scotland is famous for haggis, salmon, shortbread, and even deep-fried Mars bars! However, it is also a multi-cultural nation and Edinburgh has hundreds of restaurants and food shops that cater for all international tastes.

You can choose to dine out or buy ingredients from the many national and international supermarkets and cook your own familiar dishes to get that taste of home.

What our students say about the food in Edinburgh

Food is very good, but I have not been brave enough to try the haggis yet. Whisky is excellent, though.

…there is a lot of other food that is not Scottish. It’s a very multi-cultural city, so there are Italian restaurants and Chinese food and Arabic and Spanish and Mexican everywhere.

Food in Edinburgh is quite diverse. You have really good curries around; really, really good kebab places alongside the University. And I think there is pretty good Chinese food here…I think you won’t struggle for choices here.
