Julie Fleeting MBE

2009 Inductee

Julie Fleeting is one of Scotland's most famous women footballers. She first played for the Scotland senior team in 1995 at the age of 15, and went on to win more than 100 senior caps, scoring more than 100 goals at international level.

Julie was a leading member of the hugely successful Edinburgh and Scottish Universities Ladies Football Teams, which earned her a University Blue.

After graduating with a bachelor of education degree in Physical Education in 2002, she moved to the United States where she played football professionally for two years with San Diego Spirit.

She joined Arsenal Ladies in 2004, scoring a hat-trick in her first FA Cup final to underline her reputation as one of the most clinical strikers in the women’s game.

She has remained a key member in an all-conquering Arsenal Ladies Team, winning 6 Premier league titles, 5 FA Cups, 3 League Cups and 3 Charity Shields. In 2007 she helped Arsenal win the UEFA Cup to complete a historic quadruple alongside the FA Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup titles.

One of her most memorable international appearances was a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania in 1998. Needing to win by 17 goals to progress, Scotland won 17-0, with Julie scoring the final crucial goal in injury time.

She was awarded an MBE in 2008 for services to women’s football.
