It's an enormous honour to have been shortlisted for the Whitfield Prize. There were moments when I was working on the book when I thought that no-one other than myself would ever be interested in my odd little corner of the Middle Ages. To be shortlisted for such a prestigious award is more than I could ever have hoped for.
