EU recruitment shows no sign of slowing

Staff numbers coming to Edinburgh from EU countries remain buoyant in the wake of last year's referendum vote.

Edinburgh's global reputation continues to be underpinned by its ever-strengthening links with universities across Europe and beyond.

The University continues to attract the brightest and the best staff and students and to create new collaborations across borders.

The number of EU staff moving on is far outweighed by the 235 new colleagues we have welcomed from EU nations in recent months.

This net gain is part of a continuing trend. Over the past three years, EU staff numbers - both academic and non-academic - have increased each year.

Our strong links with universities in Europe and beyond include participation in the Erasmus exchange programme.

We are an active member of a number of international organisations including Universitas 21, the League of European Research Universities and the Coimbra Group.

"Recruiting talented colleagues from the EU and around the world is crucial to maintaining our success as one of the world's leading universities. This approach makes the University what it is today - it is something that we will continue to celebrate and embrace."
