What happens during Welcome Week?
Welcome Week is a programme of events for new students which takes place the week before teaching commences. It marks the start of your time at Edinburgh; you will register for your courses, attend introductory sessions, explore the University and have the chance to meet fellow students.
Welcome Week and School induction takes place between 11-15 September 2023.

The first step in Welcome Week - Start your studies!
For PGR students (PhD and MScR degree programmes), your supervisor will email you with instructions on how to set up an appointment with them. They will confirm your attendance (now know as start your studies) which is a required part of the registration process.
For PGT students (MSc degree programmes), the Student Support Office will be in touch ahead of the start of semester with a link on further information on how to confirm attendance.
School sessions will take place throughout the week and include welcome talks from some key staff and discussions with the Programme Directors and Graduate Officers for Archaeology, Classics and History.

School welcome sessions for new students in the Graduate School of History, Classics and Archaeology (both taught and research) begin on Monday 11 September. Events for Postgraduate HCA students can be found in the Welcome Week Events webpage and app.
Monday 11th September
Welcome session for all incoming MSc students at HCA. An introduction to everything you need to know about your degree programme with Programme Directors from each subject area, senior academic staff, a session on stepping up to MSc study and an introduction to student support and the administration team.
Welcome session for all incoming History OL MSc students at HCA. An introduction to everything you need to know about your MSc History online programme with Programme Directors. This event will run again at 4pm.

Wednesday 13th September
An introduction to important facets of postgraduate studies, with speakers from the library, and on equality and diversity, ethics, academic conduct, careers and the University's data and research support.
Thursday 14th September
All Postgraduate Research (MScR and PhD) students from the School of History, Classics and Archaeology are invited to our drinks reception in the Jim McMillan Room – room 1.31, in the Old Medical School, Doorway 4.
