As well as a delicious lunch, there’s plenty of banter and a truly positive atmosphere at this fantastic fundraising event.

Ballater Charitable Chiels Texas Scramble

This annual fundraiser was first organised by Sandy Barclay after he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND). The Ballater Charitable Chiels joined forces with Sandy - and latterly his widow Lindsay - to host this fantastic fundraising event. Over a decade after Sandy’s inaugural Texas Scramble, the Ballater Charitable Chiels continue to organise this fantastic golf tournament in honour of Sandy and Lindsay. To date the Chiels have donated over £400,000 to the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research, and a similarly generous amount to community projects in and around Ballater.

The Ballater Charitable Chiels

The Charitable Chiels are local Ballater lads, who raise smiles and spirits with their community fundraising activities. The idea to form an organised fundraising group was first mooted in August 2000 and the Charitable Chiels was officially formed just five months later in January 2001. As well as fundraising, the Chiels are also very ‘hands on’ in supporting their local community. They manage the Annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display, Village Christmas Lights, Village Play Park, and Ernie’s Bothy at Gelder Shiel, to name but a few.

Ballater Golf Club

This eighteen hole golf course is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Upper Deeside. Several holes lie close to the River Dee and the course lies within a circle of heather clad hills with glorious views, making it a delightful golfing experience. With its beautiful scenery, dominated by Lochnagar to the west, and the fresh Highland air, golfers are sure to enjoy this lovely course. And remember to get your complimentary dram from a Chiel when you get back to the Club House!

Texas Scramble

The Charitable Chiels are looking for teams of four to compete in this year’s Texas Scramble (Friday 7th June). Team entry costs just £240 and includes a delicious hot buffet lunch. A silent auction will be held throughout the day with the grand raffle being drawn in the evening.
