Friends of St Cecilia's Hall festival concerts

Two classical concerts featuring harpsichords and guitars took place as part of the Festival Fringe.

Museum of Instruments

While St Cecilia’s is currently closed for refurbishment, festival goers had the opportunity to enjoy two concerts organised by Friends of St Cecilia’s Hall.

On 16 August, Gordon Ferries and Stephen Morrison returned to the Fringe with guitar duets, featuring Sor's L'Encouragement, Carulli's arrangement of the first two movements of Haydn's Symphony 104 in D major (London), Beethoven transcriptions and a rare selection of virtuoso compositions by Antoine de Lhoyer.

On 22 August, John Kitchen presented a programme of lesser known French music from 1680-1780, including Jean-François Tapray's virtuosic variations on Rameau's celebrated dance, Les Sauvages and a selection of characteristic pieces by Forqueray and Duphly.

The St Cecilia's Hall Museum of Instruments is due to re-open open to the public in late 2016.
