University sponsored International Festival opening concert

The University was proud to support the EIF Opening Concert, conducted by Donald Runnicles.

Donald Runnicles

On 8 August, Donald Runnicles, an alumnus of the University, conducted the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a performance of works by Brahms and Strauss.

The Orchestra and Edinburgh Festival Chorus first performed some of Brahms’ Romantic choral works, including Gesang der Parzen, Schickalslied and Liebeslieder Waltzer.

The Orchestra then performed Strauss’s grand autobiographical Ein Heldenleben, a vivid portrait of a hero’s life, his struggles against adversity and his ultimate fulfilment.
