To celebrate the new millennium we erected plaques on various sites around the University.
The plaques commemorate the achievements of individuals who have been associated with the University throughout its 400 years.
1711 - 1776
Philosopher, historian, author of 'A Treatise of Human Nature' and alumnus of the University.
1771 - 1832
Novelist, poet, historian, father of the historical novel, alumnus of the University.
1827 - 1912
Founder of antiseptic medicine, Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University.
1859 - 1930
Author and creator of Sherlock Holmes, medical graduate of the University.
1902 - 1945
Olympic 400 metres champion (1924), graduate of the University, teacher and missionary.
