Sarah Prieels

2018 inductee

Sarah Prieels is a world-class archer with a string of global titles and records to her name, most of which she has achieved while pursuing a Masters degree at the University. Sarah has won a number of World Cup (Indoor) stages, including Bangkok in 2016 and Marrakech in 2017. In the same year, she unified the European Outdoor and Indoor titles, becoming only the second compound archer ever to complete the feat.

In 2016, she won a silver medal at the FISU World University Archery Championships in Mongolia, and a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships. Two years later she claimed the 2018 Lancaster Archery Open Pro Champ title in Pennsylvania, one of the most feted titles in the archery world. She was the first woman to shoot 300 out of 300 in competition on her way to qualifying European Indoor Championships in 2017, while in the same year equalling the World Record with a match score of 149/150 in the World Indoor Cup Tour. Over recent years, Sarah has won countless national titles and representative honours in her native Belgium, as well as being the top female compound archer in France, Scotland and United Kingdom.

Sarah has been a stalwart of EU Archery Club during her time at the University. With the support of the University’s Performance Sport Programme and access to specialist archery practice facilities, Sarah has helped EU Archery dominate British University & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships, both indoors and outdoors. She has been a serial winner of individual BUCS titles, and is a BUCS record holder. Sarah’s commitment to EU Archery is absolute, as illustrated by her election to the role of Captain for session 2018-19.

In 2016-17, the University awarded Sarah the Cameron Blue of the Year Award for her world-class performances. This was followed up with the Eva Bailey Cup for the most outstanding female athlete of the year in 2017-18 (jointly awarded).
