Veterinary Nurse - Medicine

Background

I graduated from Centralia College of Agricultural Technology, in Ontario, Canada in 1993 as a Registered Veterinary Technician.  I spent the first couple of years in regular practice in Ontario before I moved to Vancouver.  The next 11 years or so I continued in regular practice, but I started doing locum work at an Emergency Clinic on the outskirts of the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

I quit regular practice in preference for emergency work and started working full time at the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley around 2007.

In 2012 I started working at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital in the Emergency and ICU departments.

In 2014 I moved to the UK, became a Registered Veterinary Nurse and worked in Aberdeen at a surgical referral/regular practice as the head nurse.  Almost two years later, I moved to the Edinburgh area to do locum work at the Hospital for Small Animals, R(D)SVS as a nurse in Internal Medicine, before working a maternity leave in the ICU ward.  Since then I have been permanently employed as a nurse in Internal Medicine, which incorporates Feline Medicine and has enabled me to work with the Oncology and Dermatology departments, as well as frequent shifts in the Emergency/Critical Care department.

In 2017 I completed the Vets Now Certificate of Veterinary Nursing in Emergency and Critical Care.
