Research summary

The goal of my Precision Medicine project is to endotype neurodegeneration through the eye using multimodal retinal imaging. This is because Neurodegenerative diseases affect millions of people worldwide and are a global public health challenge. Whilst no cure currently exist, early and accurate diagnosis provide a chance for quicker and optimal treatment that may help to prevent or slow disease progression, resulting in symptoms relief to enhance patients’ quality of life. Thus, I am interested in using the eye as a window to neurodegeneration and neurovascular dysfunction. In collaboration with our industry partner, Heidelberg Engineering, our aim is to assess novel eye biomarkers that are quick, less invasive, affordable, more accurate, and more tolerable by patients. In combination with other biomarkers like neuroimaging and fluid, we hope to develop a better understanding, differentially diagnose, and monitor these diseases, and ultimately develop new therapeutic targets.
