Background
Alba studied Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She did a thesis on a Multiplex PCR to detect Bovine Tuberculosis and Paratuberculosis from blood samples of cattle. She then gained some experience in teaching Biology and Health Sciences at high school level. Afterwards she completed her Master's degree in Animal Biosciences at the Roslin Institute. Her MSc is aimed to generate data of the susceptibility and resistance of Escherichia coli strains to phages, in order to develop a Machine Learning system that can predict a suitable phage (or combination of phages) to treat a specific bacterial infection based on the genome sequence of the pathogen. Alba is currently doing her PhD at the Roslin Institute, exploring how the interaction between phage and bacteria is different in laboratory conditions than within mammalian hosts.
