Current Research

My primary research interest is the pathogenesis of inflammatory disease of the external ear canal and middle ear using animal models and molecular pathology approaches. The predisposition to ear disease can have a genetic and developmental basis such as the growth retardation of protective nasopharyngeal glands and modified sebaceous glands in the ear canal of EDAR signalling mutant rodent models of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia. The goal is to use comparative pathology of the mouse, rat and dog to shed light on the mechanisms of ear disease in humans.
