When you can expect to receive a decision

If you applied by the October or January deadline, you will receive a decision by mid-May. Most applicants will hear back from us by 30 April.  

Where competition for places is high, we want to make sure that there is fair and equal consideration for applicants. As such, we will not begin selection on most applications that meet our entry requirements until after the October or January application deadline.   

If you receive an offer from us, you will have time to weigh up your options before you need to reply to your offers via UCAS in June.

If you have applied for a degree in the following areas, we may invite you to an interview before you receive our decision:  

  • medicine  
  • nursing  
  • teacher education  
  • veterinary medicine 

How to check if you’ve received a decision

You can find out if you have been made an offer of a place, or if your application has not been successful, by visiting UCAS Hub or MyEd.

UCAS Hub allows you to track the progress of your application and will tell you what decisions your chosen universities have made.

MyEd 

MyEd is where applicants and students access most of the University’s online resources. We use it to communicate with you about your application. 

After you apply, you will receive details of how to log on to MyEd. 

If you receive an offer, it is important to check MyEd regularly so that you know what steps you need to take next.

Updating your contact details 

Let us know if any of your contact details, especially your email address, have changed. You can update this through MyEd or by contacting us directly to let us know.

Conditional and unconditional offers

If we make you an offer before you complete all your qualifications, it will be a conditional offer. We will base the conditions of your offer on: 

  • your predicted grades 
  • the specific subjects you are studying 
  • what we ask for in our entry requirements 

If you have already met our entry requirements, we may make you an unconditional offer. We do not make early unconditional offers to applicants who haven’t achieved the qualifications and grades we need for entry. 

If you receive an unconditional offer while you are still at school or college, we strongly advise that you continue to study for any qualifications noted on your UCAS application as incomplete. If you decide to make any changes to your studies, we advise you to tell us as this may have a bearing on your preparedness for entry. 

If you are unsuccessful

We receive many more applications from well-qualified students than there are places available. 

If your application has not been successful, our feedback for unsuccessful applicants may help explain our decision.

We will also give you personalised feedback about your application if you ask for it. However, we may not be able to provide it between 1 January and 31 March because of the volume of admissions work we carry out. If we cannot provide feedback during this time, we will provide it within 20 working days of 31 March.

If you change your mind

Let us know as soon as you can if you:  

  • change your mind about the degree programme you have applied for at any point in the admissions process  
  • want to decline an offer you have already accepted
