Students play their part in fight against Covid-19

Students are being asked to help protect their families and communities by booking a Covid-19 test before travelling home for the winter break.

The University is running two asymptomatic testing sites from 10am – 8pm until Wednesday 9 December.

Testing is taking place at two locations:

Any student in Edinburgh can book a free test now.

We are asking all students to play their part and help protect their families and communities by booking a Covid-19 test. It is easy to do, takes less than ten minutes and our team of staff are on-hand to support you at every step.

Crucial role

By taking part in this nation-wide testing programme, students are playing a crucial role in reducing the risk of transmission to their loved ones and local communities.

Getting tested will help to break the chain of transmission, especially for those who may be unaware that they are carrying the virus.

Thousands of students have already booked their test, but there are still plenty of slots available.

Large-scale operation

The University is operating the largest student asymptomatic testing site in Scotland, with the ability to process more than 3,600 tests per day.

It is providing tests for students across four higher education institutions - Edinburgh Napier University, Queen Margaret University and SRUC, as well as University of Edinburgh students.

The programme is running in partnership with the University and other Scottish universities, the UK and Scottish Governments and NHS Test and Protect.

Team effort

More than 250 staff from Edinburgh Napier University and the University of Edinburgh are on site every day to support students.

As part of this, student nurses from Napier are helping students to take the tests and lab-experienced Edinburgh PhD students are processing them.
