World-leading competitors headline an outstanding group of University athletes preparing to compete on home soil at this summer's Commonwealth Games.

From rising stars to world-leading competitors, the current 15-strong cohort features current students, alumni, incoming students and associate athletes supported by the University’s elite sporting performance programmes.
The University's representation is also expected to grow further, with up to 20 athletes and several coaching staff appointments anticipated once final selections are complete across all sports, a major achievement in a smaller Games programme.
Representing Team Scotland in a range of disciplines, including swimming, para-swimming, athletics, wheelchair racing, judo, basketball, netball and weightlifting, the group reflects the University’s longstanding commitment to supporting talented athletes to excel on the world stage.

Superstar students
Current students competing include one of the UK’s leading athletics stars, distance runner Megan Keith. An Olympian, European 10km road record holder, and European Championships bronze medallist, Keith will make her Commonwealth Games debut in the 10,000 metres.
Star swimmers Archie Goodburn, Ciara Schlosshan and Joshua Mitchell bring a wealth of international experience. Archie Goodburn is a British champion, Commonwealth Games competitor and Scottish record holder, while Ciara Schlosshan is a European Junior silver medallist and one of Scotland's leading butterfly specialists. Joshua Mitchell has represented Scotland and Great Britain internationally and continues to establish himself as one of Britain's leading breaststroke swimmers.
A Paralympic gold medallist and world champion, para swimmer Faye Rogers’s rapid rise has established her as one of the sport’s most exciting talents. Rogers won the 100 metre butterfly and S10 gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and will make her Commonwealth Games debut this summer.

Elite alumni
They are joined by a distinguished group of Edinburgh alumni, including two-time Commonwealth gold medallist, Judoka Sarah Adlington.
A multiple British champion, she represented Team GB at the Tokyo Olympic Games, claimed Commonwealth gold at both Glasgow 2014 and Birmingham 2022, and will compete for a record third gold in her final international competition this summer.
Other alumni competing for Team Scotland include swimmers Scott Gibson and Lucy Hope, both seasoned international swimmers. Gibson is a previous Commonwealth Games competitor and multiple international representative for Scotland, while Hope is an Olympian and Commonwealth Games competitor who has represented both Scotland and Great Britain at the highest level.
Wheelchair racer and alumna Melanie Woods brings further international experience, having competed at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and winning two bronze medals at the 2025 World Championships.
Alumni Ollie Short will make his Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland in Glasgow, marking a major milestone in the career of one of Scottish judo's rising stars.
Hannah Robb is an international basketball player who represented Team Scotland at Birmingham 2022 and returns to the Commonwealth stage in Glasgow as one of the country's leading players.

Associate athletes
The University's contribution to the Games also extends beyond its student and alumni community. Associate athlete Stephen Clegg MBE heads to the Games as a double Paralympic champion, world record holder and multiple world champion swimmer, widely regarded as one of the world's leading para-swimmers.
He delivered a career-defining performance at Paris 2024, claiming two Paralympic gold medals and setting a world record, and returns to the Commonwealth Games as one of Team Scotland's leading medal hopes, following a silver-medal win at Birmingham 2022.
The group also includes the next generation of sporting talent. Incoming student Maddie Rosher is one of Scotland's most promising weightlifters and will make her Commonwealth Games debut.
Upcoming swimmers and associate athletes Anna Morgan and Stefan Krawiec represent the University's proven record of developing strong international competitors.

Sporting success
The athletes' presence at Glasgow 2026 continues the University’s history of athletic support and connection to major sporting events, with distinguished alumni including Olympic and Commonwealth medallists Sir Chris Hoy, Grace Reid and Eilidh Doyle.
Its contribution to Glasgow 2026 also includes University performance coaches supporting national teams, students volunteering at the Games, and alumni involved in team management and medical support.
The University’s sport and exercise offering is one of the most extensive in the UK, supporting a wide range of opportunities and facilities for training, competition and recreation.
From elite athlete development to social sport and wellbeing initiatives, the University is dedicated to ensuring that all students can stay active, connected and fully supported throughout their studies.

Long history
Taking place from 23 July to 2 August, this summer’s Games come at a significant moment for University sport, with 2027 marking the 160th anniversary of the Edinburgh University Sports Union.
The milestone provides an opportunity to celebrate a remarkable legacy of sporting achievement, leadership and contribution to Scottish and international sport at the very highest level.
It is fantastic to see so many members of our University community selected to compete at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. From current students balancing their studies with training at the highest level, to our alumni and associated athletes training on our world-class performance programmes, they embody the values of excellence, resilience and leadership that we seek to foster at Edinburgh. These athletes are outstanding ambassadors for the University and for Scotland, and we wish them every success as they compete at the highest level this summer.
