Policy update: personal relationships

The University has reviewed and updated its policy on the Disclosure of Intimate Relationships.

As a result:

  • It has been renamed as the Personal Relationships Policy with personal relationships defined as a “consensual intimate relationship including but not limited to marital, life partner, sexual and/or romantic partner which goes beyond the bounds of a platonic or work relationship”’.
  • It has been confirmed that staff should not have professional or pastoral responsibility, either directly or indirectly, with a student with whom they have a personal relationship.
  • A disclosure form and process have been introduced to record personal relationships, assess them, and identify any required actions.
  • A secure process has been set up for storing disclosures and to allow for reporting if required.
  • Guidance documents have been produced for students, staff and managers.

The updated policy and guidance documents are available on the HR webpages:
