Three Minute Thesis 2025 competition winner announced

This year’s finalists delivered captivating research presentations covering a wide range of disciplines.

The Three Minute Thesis competition sees doctoral researchers from across the University compete to deliver the best research presentation in just three minutes and one slide.

The winner of this year’s competition was Lokesh Jain from the School of GeoSciences with the presentation 'Ice mélange: the cork in the glacial bottle'. Lokesh was also the winner of the People’s Choice audience vote.

The runner-up of the competition was Jiaxuan Du, School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, with the presentation 'How Mindfulness Shapes Saying “No” to Sex'.

Three minute thesis competition finalists

About the competition 

The goal of the annual Three Minute Thesis competition is for participants to lead an engaging research presentation that can be understood by anyone, regardless of their familiarity with the topic.

The competition helps postgraduate researchers develop their presentation, research and academic communication skills.

This year’s competition was held on 25 June 2025 in the Nucleus Building, King’s Buildings.
