Teviot renovations: An inside look

As part of our mission to improve our students’ University experience, upgrade works are underway to Teviot Row House, the world’s oldest purpose-built Students’ Union.

This project is a partnership between the University and the Students’ Association to ensure that this much-loved building is refurbished and enhanced to create a vibrant and accessible space, ready to meet the needs of our students for years to come.

Teviot’s heritage and history are being carefully preserved, alongside introducing many modern facilities. Lucy Evans, Deputy Secretary Students, recently joined Dora Herndon, Students’ Association President, for a behind-the-scenes look at how far the renovations are progressing.

Our renovation work looks to preserve Teviot’s unique history, while preparing it for generations to come.

The changes being made to the building include improved accessibility and wheelchair access, renovated bar and café spaces, new workshop facilities, and the creation of a vibrant community lounge with Heat & Eat facilities.

We are making changes that will retain Teviot's welcoming charm alongside improvements based on your feedback including better wheelchair access, purpose-built community spaces, and excellent bars and cafés, to make sure the spaces and facilities meet the needs of all our students, staff and visitors.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the upgraded Teviot in early 2026.
