Postgraduate dissertation celebration 2025

Almost 200 postgraduate taught students from across the University joined a reception on 20 August to celebrate submitting their dissertations.

Students from all of the University’s three Colleges attended the event at the Playfair Library, Old College, alongside their supervisors and other staff, to mark the end of their studies and celebrate their achievements.

The event also marked the start of the countdown to students’ graduation ceremonies in November and provided staff with an opportunity to wish students all the best for the future.

The event featured a speech from Deputy Vice-Principal Students (Enhancement), Professor Tina Harrison, as well as a live cello performance from Natalie Poyser, Business Operations Manager in the Institute for Academic Development.

This event marked the culmination of months of dedication, persistence and creativity. Submitting a dissertation is no small achievement, and our students should all be immensely proud of what they have accomplished. We certainly are very proud of our students, and their dissertations embody the diversity and depth of scholarship that make Edinburgh so special.
