Student Participation Grant available
Funding has been made available to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The University is providing £25,000 to support students from more disadvantaged backgrounds to support with costs associated with taking part in extra-curricular activities.
Eligible students will be contacted directly by The Students’ Association to begin the application process.
The Participation Grant will be available during the 2021/22 academic year to address the financial barriers Widening Participation (WP) students face in taking part in experiences that could enhance their time at Edinburgh.
Student group and society membership fees, volunteering trip costs and sports kits are areas that the grant can be used for.
Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to study at Edinburgh, so I am pleased that this grant will enable students from a wide range of diverse backgrounds to thrive, to feel a sense of belonging and to enjoy University life. This grant is in addition to around £10m spent by the University on undergraduate widening participation bursaries this year, with particular growth in funding for care leavers and estranged students.
We’re delighted that this support is now available, and that we can play our part in getting grants allocated to students. We hope that the funding can make an impact on many students' lives this semester by enhancing their ability to participate in our wonderful student community.
The grant is for students who fit one of the following criteria:
- UK undergraduate students in receipt of a University of Edinburgh Scholarship or a University of Edinburgh Scotland Scholarship
- Postgraduate students who were in receipt of a University of Edinburgh Scholarship or University of Edinburgh Scotland Scholarship as an undergraduate
- Disabled students, student carers, student parents, care-experienced, estranged students
Students will be able to apply for support with both future costs and costs incurred previously.
