Winter 2021 graduations

The University is pleased to confirm that the winter 2021 graduation ceremonies will take place in McEwan Hall from 27 November to 8 December.

The dates for each School's ceremonies are currently being confirmed and all students expected to graduate this winter will be emailed with further details as soon as these dates are finalised.

Full details will be published on our Graduations page.

We’re delighted to be returning to McEwan Hall, the University’s ceremonial home for more than 120 years, for our winter graduation ceremonies this year. Students should feel enormously proud of their achievements, not only in terms of their degrees, but with the extraordinary efforts they will have made to adapt over the past year and a half. I wish every student all the success in their future as a University of Edinburgh graduate, and hope everyone has a fantastic day.

McEwan Hall

The McEwan Hall was presented to the University in 1897 by William McEwan, not only as a ceremonial hall for graduations but also as a gift to the people of Edinburgh.

Many luminaries such as historian Professor Sir Tom Devine, author Alexander McCall Smith and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown have all graduated here.

The hall was reopened in 2017 following a three year, multi-million pound refurbishment.
