Learning festival caters for creative impulses

Masterclasses on orchestral conducting, secret messaging and the dynamics of swing dancing are among the intriguing events at the Festival of Creative Learning.

Other highlights include introductory sessions on designing the ideal lecture, ways to cook with science and how to read a newspaper like a mathematician.

There are workshops on basic British Sign Language, developing ideas for a start-up company and the art of tricking people into clicking on links.

Taster sessions

The programme also offers the chance try your hand at drawing from memory, to make 3D structures with bioplastic and to explore the links between football and the law.

The University’s week-long series of events is open to all staff, students and members of the wider community.

Running from 18-22 February, the lively programme of more than 100 events aims to give people an opportunity to work together and learn new skills.

Celebrating innovation

The Festival of Creative Learning builds on Innovative Learning Week, which ran from 2012 to 2016.

It is run by the Institute for Academic Development. The events aim to celebrate and share good practices happening throughout the University, and support innovative ways of teaching.
