Partnership widens online learning options

The University is set to expand the online programmes and degrees it offers with a leading digital learning provider.

US-based edX has announced it will offer micromasters programs – a masters-level education without the commitment of a full degree - and online masters degrees from Edinburgh.

European first

The University will be the first European university to offer both micromasters and masters degree programs on the edX platform.

The first subject area to offer these online options will be business analytics, delivered by the University’s Business School.

The University has worked with edX for two years. More than 90,000 learners have taken an Edinburgh massive open online course (MOOC) on edX.

Partnering with edX helps us expand our online learning portfolio to deliver graduate-level education to a wider audience, utilising new and innovative online learning. By expanding our open educational resources we are able to reach more students online who are unable or do not wish to attend a traditional campus-based university education.

Global leader

Edinburgh is a global leader in online learning. It has engaged with 2.5 million learners through MOOC providers such as edX, Coursera and FutureLearn. Around 3000 students are currently studying a postgraduate degree online with the University.

We are delighted to share this news regarding the deepening of our partnership with the University of Edinburgh. By offering new micromasters programs and online master’s degree offerings in highly in-demand fields like business analytics, the University of Edinburgh will be helping to directly address the growing global skills gap.
