The University is committed to making a significant socially responsible and sustainable contribution to the world. This encompasses everything from the research, learning and teaching that is carried out at Edinburgh, to improving how the estate is run to minimise energy consumption.
But what does this mean for the individuals who live, work or study at the University?
The Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability invites staff and students to attend the annual SRS Staff & Student Workshop to consider what the University will look like in 2040 in relation to eight key themes:
1. Energy
2. Waste
3. Fair trade and sustainable procurement
4. Sustainable travel
5. Biodiversity
6. Food
7. Equality and diversity (with a focus on race equality)
8. Community Engagement
Vision for 2040
The event will be chaired by Professor Lesley McAra, Assistant Principal Community Engagement, and Dave Gorman, Director of Social Responsibility and Sustainability Department.
It is an opportunity for staff and students to meet other individuals passionate about social responsibility and sustainability and work together to create a better University for everyone.
The workshop will be delivered in a ‘world café’ format, where attendees will have the opportunity to focus on three themes that they are interested in.
Over the course of the event, an in-house illustrator will be on hand to bring the ideas to life, and create a final drawing which will outline our 2040 vision.
