The University’s Cardiovascular Research Centre Fundraising Group picked up the award for New Fundraising Group of the Year at a ceremony at British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland’s Annual Supporter Conference in Edinburgh.

Fundraising efforts

Made up of BHF-funded Masters and PhD students, the group has raised nearly £4,000 since they formed last year.

They’ve raised funds by organising a ceilidh, giving up chocolate for BHF Scotland’s DECHOX challenge and at quizzes and collections.

The group has also run CPR sessions for students, and attended a BHF Scotland parliamentary reception at Holyrood to raise money to help continue the charity’s life-saving work.

Charity awards

BHF Scotland’s Heart Hero and Community Fundraising Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional contribution of individuals and groups who are fighting for every heartbeat in Scotland.

These include heart patients who are campaigning for better services, fundraisers who are raising vital money to fund life-saving heart research, funded scientists and health professionals.

We are absolutely over the moon to win this award. The BHF has supported all of us through our research and it is amazing to be able to give something back. We hope to have another successful year and continue our fundraising work.

Supporter event

Around 120 delegates attended the annual BHF Scotland Supporter Day at the University of Edinburgh’s Medical School where they heard about the £35 million of medical research being funded by the BHF at the University.

Delegates were able to see this breakthrough science up-close during exclusive lab tours.

The group are motivated and caring, and do all of this on top of their demanding university studies. They are a shining example of the exceptional contribution made by all our supporters and I’m sure that the group will inspire others to help in our fight against heart disease.
