World record charity bake sale bid

Students, staff and volunteers at the University are to hold a charity bake sale in a bid to claim a Guinness World Record.

They will hold more than 40 bake sales across campus on Monday 29 February in an effort to break the record for the most cakes sold in 8 hours.

The attempt will begin at 9am at the main bake sale at Pleasance Gym, hosted by members of the University’s sporting community, and will end at 5pm.

Satellite bake sales will take place across the main University campuses at the same time.

Big Leap

The attempt is part of the University’s Big Leap campaign, which aims to encourage staff, students and graduates to use some of the extra time that 2016’s leap year provides to fundraise for good causes.

Income generated will support a range of causes nominated by bake sale volunteers.

These include those within the University, such as the Free Legal Advice Centre and Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, as well as external charities.

Members of the public are invited to support the record attempt by buying cakes at any of the Big Leap bake sales.

Bake Off patron

Former Great British Bake Off contestant and 1998 English Literature and French graduate Glenn Cosby is patron of the world record attempt.

Having shared a recipe for ginger scones for those seeking baking inspiration in the lead up, Glenn will also be assisting on the day itself during a bake sale tour.
