Sustainability course option for all students
Students across the University are being given the opportunity to learn about sustainability with a new online course.
The 11-week programme, open to students of any subject at all levels, aims to enable participants to gain insight into what sustainability is and what it means to them.
The optional course is online, designed to fit around students’ other commitments.
Organisers hope that those taking part can learn how they could contribute to shaping a more sustainable future for society.

Professor Dave Reay, Assistant Principal, Global Environment & Society, discusses the new course option available to all students.
Broad reach
The programme, entitled Sustainability and Social Responsibility, draws on content from an array of leading Edinburgh researchers in fields from business, law and politics to engineering, biomedicine and health sciences.
The level 8 course carries 20 credits, so is relevant for all students.
It will run online for the duration of semester two in the current academic year.
Collaborative thinking
Led by the Schools of Geosciences and Education, the programme is a collaboration between the Universities’ Colleges, Schools and Global Academies.
It is designed to bring students from all disciplines together to work on sustainability issues.
Organisers hope to make the course available to the University’s alumni in future.
This would reconnect former students with the University, enabling them to share their insights, experiences and expertise with current students.
We hope this new programme will inspire our students to see that sustainability is relevant and important for everyone, and will empower them to make sustainable choices. We hope this course will attract hundreds of our students from all disciplines in the years to come.
