Reducing rents to improve affordability
The University is to reduce the price of some student accommodation to help make studying at Edinburgh more affordable to all.
The move, which follows consultation with the Students’ Association, ensures Edinburgh will provide a good balance of rental options that cater for a range of budgets and needs.
The student body has been working with Edinburgh’s Accommodation, Catering and Events team to establish a manageable rent for students facing the greatest financial challenges; often no income beyond their student maintenance loan.
Room options
As a result, it will provide 934 undergraduate rooms at less than £105 per week, from September 2017.
This is a significant increase - some 80 per cent - in the rooms available at this price range, representing almost one in every six rooms provided by the University.
Options in this price range include rooms in self-catered flats but also 100 rooms in catered accommodation at Pollock Halls.
The University also offers a range of automatic scholarships to Scottish, English, Welsh and Northern Irish domiciled students from low income households.
