Gather Festival 2016
A festival reflecting the University's diverse community takes place this month.
Gather Festival will see a range of events take place across the campus from 20-28 February.
The programme aims to celebrate Edinburgh's global links: one third of the student population comes from outside of the UK, representing more than 140 nations.
Events programme
The festival has a rich programme of events encompassing many aspects of campus culture; a mix of food, music, comedy, sport, film, language, dance and more.
Two of this year’s standout events are detailed below.

Highland Games
The Gather Highland Games offer a fresh twist on a classic Scottish tradition.
The lively mix of Scottish-themed activities will take place in the Pleasance Main Hall on 25 February. Highlights include a haggis race, obstacle course, tug of war and a stone toss.
Film festival
A number of film screenings and discussions have been organised.
The programme centres on the theme of community and culture, featuring a mix of shorts, animation, documentaries and feature films.
Eclectic events
Further attractions include comedy workshops, spoken word events and language lessons.
A variety of music and dance nights will offer participants tasters of bhangra, salsa and tango dancing as well as performances from University Dance Societies.
A poetry walking tour highlighting the rich history of diversity at the University will be held on 20 February.
