Maddie, who studies in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, won the University final in June with her presentation ‘Language and the Brain: The Skye’s the Limit.’

She then competed against 56 students from other UK universities in the semi-finals, where she successfully secured a place in September’s final.

Thesis contest

First developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, the 3MT competition challenges research students to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in three minutes, with only one slide.

It enables doctoral researchers to showcase their work, and can open doors to new collaborations and networks for researchers and supervisors.
