Update on protest at Charles Stewart House

This is an update to you on the latest situation at Charles Stewart House where, since last Wednesday, there has been an occupation by students following the University’s recent announcement on changes to its fossil fuel policy.

You may be aware of an unfortunate incident that took place outside Charles Stewart House this morning that is currently being played on social media. The University is aware of, and deeply regrets, this incident and the matter is now in the hands of the police.

We continue to support the right of students to peacefully and lawfully demonstrate, and the University is using private security outside its buildings in Chambers Street in order to secure the safety of staff and students during the occupation. We are constantly reviewing our security arrangements to make sure that they are appropriate to the circumstances in what is an evolving situation.

We continue to work to ensure business as usual for all of the University and to keep any disruption to an absolute minimum.

We will keep you informed as we work to bring things to an acceptable conclusion as quickly as possible.
