UCU Assessment boycott - suspension of action

The University and College Union (UCU) have confirmed a suspension of all industrial action from the 20 November until after 15 January 2015.

This agreement to suspend industrial action at this early stage will help to minimise the impact on students.

Earlier this month the UCU announced plans for an assessment boycott to start on 6th November 2014. This was because of an ongoing dispute between the Union and Universities nationally about changes to staff pensions.

An assessment boycott would mean that some academic staff may refuse to set or mark coursework, assignments and exams.

Talks to start

The suspension has been agreed between UCU and Universities UK in order to allow a period of intense negotiation with the aim of seeking an agreement on reforms to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). The University welcomes this development and hopes this gives both parties the opportunity to explore an agreed solution.
