Are you sitting comfortably?

Stay healthy while you study or relax with these simple steps.

Between lectures, tutorials, the library and your kitchen table or couch, we spend an average of nine hours a day sitting down. For much of this time we are glued to PCs, phones, tablets or games consoles.

These patterns can have a negative effect on your health, particularly with the added pressures of carrying heavy book bags back and forth to university.

There are some things you can do to reduce the strain on your muscles while you’re plugged in to various technologies. These small steps will make things more comfortable for you in the short term, and should help guard against issues in the longer term.

Take a break

Move from your sitting position, go for a walk or visit some of the interesting sites around our campuses. EUSA have created a wellbeing map with suggestions of good places to go for a break.

Stay active

Getting regular exercise can help combat the issues caused by sitting for prolonged periods. The Centre for Sport and Exercise at the Pleasance runs wide range of classes and workshops, open to members and non-members.
