DO the festival!

The Edinburgh Festivals offer students an amazing opportunity to participate in one of the world’s greatest celebrations of human intellect and creativity.

It won’t come as a surprise that our alumni recently voted getting involved in the festivals as one of the top three experiences from their time at in the University.

You can get involved in a variety of ways, from simply attending events to performing and exhibiting, from taking master classes, to undertaking internships. The possibilities are endless and the experiences can be life-changing.

Here are a few of the things our students are doing this year:

  • Exhibiting at the Masters Degree Show at the Art Festival.
  • Being part of the judging panel for the prestigious James Tait Black Literary Awards.
  • Performing at the Fringe in collaboration with Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. 'The Heavenly View', is a Fringe performance inspired by Mahler’s 4th Symphony.
  • Becoming the artistic entrepreneurs of the future. The University, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland are supporting students through their Developing Artistic Entrepreneurship course.

What are you up to?

If you are taking part in the festivities this summer, tell us what you are up to and how it’s going. We would love to hear about your experiences:

The University and the festivals

Walk through the University campus in August and you’ll step straight into the festivals. Many of our iconic buildings and landmarks are transformed into venues for both the Fringe and the Edinburgh International Festival. However, our involvement doesn’t stop there.

The University's involvement in Edinburgh’s festivals throughout the year is a reflection of our commitment to expanding and communicating knowledge. The festivals enable us to showcase and share some of the fascinating thinking and cutting-edge research by our academics and students.
