Looking for a part time job?

The University Careers Service, with information rooms in the Main Library and King’s Buildings, provides a range of resources to help you with all aspects of your job hunt. Visit their webpages, come along to talks and events, or pop in to chat about your options.

The Careers Service’s database, SAGE (Student & Graduate Employment) is a great place to start when looking for part-time work.

Every week, the University is contacted by local employers looking to fill a wide variety of positions such as bar and waiting staff, swimming teachers, life guards and tutors. Last year over 1700 jobs were advertised. With advertisements listed on the SAGE database updated daily, make sure you check regularly for the latest vacancies. In addition to using SAGE, other hints when looking for part time work are:

  • look out for advertisements in shop windows
  • speak to staff in places you would like to work – such as bars, cafes and shops
  • talk to other students, friends and family about where they work

It can help to have a CV ready if you are going to approach employers face-to-face.
