New Menopause Policy and guidance

The University is implementing a new Menopause Policy.

The policy aims to offer support and guidance to any colleague experiencing menopause and to those who may be indirectly impacted.

It also reflects the People Strategy commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment for everyone employed at the University.

Menopause Policy

Introducing this policy was a result of understanding some of the support that contributes to the wellbeing of all  colleagues. It aims to create a more inclusive working environment by reducing the stigma and misunderstanding around menopause.  It can be found below:

Menopause Policy

The Policy and new manager's guidance will support colleagues in the following ways:

  • Supportive workplace environment: The policy and guidance materials should support and encourage discussions between colleagues and their managers. The policy has helpful definitions and a list of symptoms that will support understanding and create space for open conversations.
  • Reasonable adjustments: The policy outlines how colleagues can request reasonable adjustments, which may include physical adjustments to their working environment and/or adjustments to their working pattern.
  • Access to health and wellbeing resources and further support: The policy provides a list of further advice and services that are available, as well as links to other relevant policies.

No-one should have to suffer in silence for fear of being misunderstood or embarrassed at work. This policy should help improve awareness and ensure the University retains talented members of staff at all stages of their working lives.

World Menopause Awareness Month

To celebrate World Menopause Awareness Month in October, a guest speaker has been invited to host an online session on the impact of menopause and how greater understanding in the workplace can better support colleagues. The session will take place on Thursday 31 October with more details being shared in the coming weeks.
