New wellbeing and student adviser roles

The University is recruiting new wellbeing and student adviser roles as part of the new model for student support.

Two new types of professional services roles – Student Advisers and Wellbeing Advisers – will be introduced across the University to support students in academic and wellbeing related issues.

These new roles will offer additional support on top of the existing support Schools have in place.

A new model for student support

Following an intensive review and consultation, a new model of student support has been developed, integrating ideas, advice and feedback from staff and students, as well as benchmarking across the sector nationally and internationally.

The new model of student support will deliver more consistent support for students, with enhanced teams of staff working alongside academics and other professional services staff to provide guidance and support to students.

Student Advisers

Student Advisers will be the first point of contact for an allocated group of students, to assist them with their studies.

These roles are being introduced into Schools as part of a phased approach and will replace the current personal tutor system.

Within the College of Science and Engineering and in Biomedical Sciences within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, Student Advisers will be in place to support first year students and the majority of Postgraduate Taught students in the 2022/23 academic year.

For the College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), Student Advisers will be available for some year groups within the Business School, School of Economics, School of History, Classics & Archaeology, and the School of Social and Political Science.

Student Advisers will work closely with Student Support Services across the University, and Teaching Organisation staff, Cohort Leads and Programme Directors within Colleges, Deaneries and Schools, to ensure students are fully supported, particularly when they require help.

Wellbeing Advisers

Wellbeing Advisers will be available to students who may be experiencing issues impacting on their health, wellbeing, studies and personal lives.

They will work closely with existing Student Support Teams and key wellbeing services and leaders across the University.
