University centre wins Design for Diversity Award
Communication Access Literacy and Learning (CALL) Scotland have achieved the Design for Diversity Award at the Herald Diversity Awards 2019.
Based within Moray House School of Education and Sport, the research and development centre helps children and young people across the country to overcome disability and barriers to learning created by their environment.
They are delighted to have achieved the Design for Diversity Award at the awards held on 9 October. This award celebrates a project that demonstrates an inclusive design process, and includes accessible design and assistive technology to enable the broadest range of users.
Scottish Computer Voice Project
CALL Scotland were nominated for their work on the Scottish Computer Voices project, which was created in collaboration with CereProc. This project develops, licenses and distributes high quality Scottish computer voices for the Scottish public sector. These computer voices are crucial for learners with dyslexia or learning difficulties, English as an additional language, visual impairment, or with communication support needs.
We are pleased and honoured to receive the 2019 Design for Diversity award. The Scottish Computer Voice projects are a great example of partnership between CALL Scotland in the University of Edinburgh, CereProc, a world leading Scottish technology firm, and the Scottish Government. The technology is helping thousands of children, young people and students across Scotland to access digital learning, assessments and examinations, and for people who have communication needs, to provide them with a voice.
